Last "budget" hotel in San Gerardo.
Unfortunately, as far as I was able to understand, the Casa Chirripo is closing. Unfortunately this was one of the last budget places in San Gerardo. The shared kitchen was really big.
The hotel fell into decay, in dire need of investment.

Good for the price
Access to a large shared kitchen. A price that is still quite low for Costa Rica.
Wifi is terrible, hostel needs to change ISP. Cleanliness in the bedroom and in the kitchen still leaves much to be desired. The hostel would not hurt a good repair, a lot of free space.

Terrible WIFI
Access to a large communal kitchen which is still quite well equipped. Front desk manager who tries to speak English to us, thank you! Terrace for relaxation and tea drinking.
Wifi is terrible, one of the worst hostels in Central America. No hot water in the shower which is unacceptable considering San Gerardo is not very hot at night. The hotel is still in ruins and needs renovation.

Nothing escapes
Dirt in the bedroom and bathroom (water leak in connection with the toilet that flowed into the bedroom, so the floor was wet), in addition, a damp room, so the sheets were very damp or even wet. Worn out duvets and very uncomfortable mattresses. Missing soundproofing. Conclusion: cellar worthy room, a shame for the hotel listed on the booking. .

Best hostel for trekking Cerro Chirripo
Jose was very helpful. The hostel is ideally located for climbing Cerro Chirripo. Was able to leave luggage at the hostel for a 2 day hike. The kitchen is very well equipped.
Cold shower and slightly dated equipment.
